The Ford Ranger Raptor is basically a small version of the high-speed F-150 Raptor. Like its large sibling, the off-road Ranger is fitted with flared doors, sturdy tires, extra ground clearance and an unmistakable grille. While it is riding on the same fully-boxed ladder frame as the frequent Ranger, the Raptor variant receives a long-distance suspension for jumping up and a more potent motor for faster desert runs. The Ford would possibly only be available in one body style — a crew cab that is attached to a cargo box of five feet. The interior should have distinct flourishes and an infotainment system charged with features. Although a lot of specifics are still pending on the upcoming Ranger Raptor, here is what we learn.
Driver, Transmission and Leistung
One of the biggest questions about the Ranger Raptor is what engine is under the hood. In other markets, Ford is driving this truck with a four-cylinder diesel, but we doubt this engine would come to our shores. And although we would love to see Ford stuff his 2.7-liter V-6 twin turbo in the hip Ranger, it’s going to require a lot of reengineering — something unlikely. This leaves only one obvious candidate: the 2.3 liter 4-cylinder turbocharged which once powered the Ford Focus RS and is available now on the Ford Mustang. We know that it can hold up to 350 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, and that it is compatible with the 10-speed automatic transmission on the normal Ranger. Compared to the pedestrian truck, the Raptor has a more powerful suspension and off-road gear. Together with higher ride height and greater ground clearance it would be possible to book wider forward and rear tracks with up to 33-inch all-terrain tires.
Convenience, interior and cargo
The Raptorized Ranger inside is slightly different from its normal counterpart. While we are also waiting for plenty of hard plastics and rubberized fabrics, Ford is likely to pull the cabin exclusively. Leather and microsuede tapering and fully reinforced front seats are available in the overseas version. The steering wheel has a red band at 12 pm, which marks its performing bottom, in addition to hosting an aluminum paddle shifter pair. We expect that the truck will offer similar standard and optional features, for dual-zone automatic air conditioning, heated seats, remote starting and much more. The Ranger Raptor is possibly only in one configuration: a five-foot cargo cargo box crew-cab body style.
